The mats in our studios are empty
We are all confined to our homes, not allowed to go out except to buy groceries or medicines. As some politicians have stated, this is a time of war. Those of us who have been fortunate enough not to know war or terrorist attacks in person are now living through an unprecedented time of crisis and fear of what the future will bring.
But we have a weapon that will protect us: although Yoga will not kill the coronavirus, it will be a great help in our fight against it, and will keep us from falling into states of despair and anxiety. And that is why Ananda Laié is now offering classes online on Zoom. The Eversports App which we have been using to register our students/clients has also adapted its system to these new circumstances and allows us to create online classes so that we can stay connected. We are offering meditation or pranayama with gentle movement at 9.00 every morning to help you start the day off in a positive frame of mind. Control of the breath, pranayama, helps us calm the mind and enter a meditative state, connecting to our inner Self and accepting whatever comes with the freedom resulting from non-attachment. Scientists have shown that brain activity changes when we are practicing Yoga and relaxation such as in Yin Yoga, and the change is even greater when we meditate or do Yoga Nidra. Brain waves become deeper and slower allowing our body to regulate its chemical response to anxiety in times of stress. We produce more serotonin which gives us a sense of well-being; the production of cortisol is reduced – and cortisol destroys serotonin. We are better able to react in a moment of crisis.

Our online classes
We are offering a wide variety of classes – something to suit everyone: meditation, Iyengar Yoga, Mantras, Detox, Hatha, Power, Vinyasa, Restorative, Yin, Nidra given by our dedicated Ananda Laié teachers and by guest teachers from other parts of the world who have offered to share their knowledge with all those who need a moment of peace. We thank them all. We also thank our clients and students, our angels and generous benefactors who, by participating in our online classes, allow us to continue our work and – most importantly – maintain our studio for when we can reopen.
We’ll meet in this space of virtual reality on Zoom which allows us moments of connection, of seeing others, waving, smiling and sharing an OM, knowing that we are not alone.
